The Benefits of a College Education Essay Sample

Many students go to college each year. Whether it's public or private, about 19.6 million students went to college in 2019. (Duffin) Since 1636, many students have gone off to college to learn and engage in different majors to become what they have always wanted to be. The skills they learn will benefit them in the long run. Even though many believe college is a waste of time, having a college education is valuable for students and the future. 

When students are away at college, they learn many skills and prepare for the real world. On students' way through college, they have many ways to learn skills other than just what they're majoring/minoring in. According to ProCon.org, Students ranked “interpersonal skills” as the most important skill used in their daily lives in a 1994 survey of 11,000 college students. [17] Vivek Wadhwa, MBA, technology entrepreneur, and scholar, states, “American children party [in college]. They learn how to interact with each other…They develop skills that make them innovative. Americans are the most innovative people in the world because of the education system. (qt in ProCon by Arthur Chickering). As the quote states, many of the skills they learn are used in their daily lives. College teaches the students to socialize and interact with others. It also teaches them to overcome real world issues. Furthermore, learning these skills can have a positive impact your future. Not to mention going to college, in general, will impact it. 

Getting your degree from college is very important in the world today. In the future, researchers are predicting that most jobs will require a college education to get a job. As Kat Trentina states, Georgetown University predicts that 70% of all jobs will require some college education by 2027. (Kat Trentina) With this data, it estimates, most students will need an education because it's valuable to have the knowledge you gain. Also, it proves that they’re hard workers and do earn and deserve the job they’re applying for. With all that being said, students should start looking to go to college in the future so they’re able to have a good life and job. 

Getting an education from any college is an efficient way to earn more money. Many researchers have found that students make more money when they go to college and achieve a degree. Kat Trienta said, The median salary for workers with high school diplomas is $38,792, and they have an average unemployment rate of 3.7% as of 2019, according to an analysis of Bureau of Labor Statistics data by Northeastern University. By contrast, the median salary for workers with bachelor’s degrees is $64,896, and their unemployment rate is just 2.2% on average. (Kat Trentina). This information proves going to college can benefit your work outcome in the future. Also, you are more likely to find a job and be employed. Even though students can survive with a high school diploma it’s less likely for them to make as much money as they would please.

Getting a college education is good for the students and their futures. Without the skills, they learn along the way they would be less prepared for the adult world. Not to mention, jobs are starting to highly encourage college degrees, without it will be harder to get employed. With this, students should go to college. Yes, it could be costly but it’s worth it in the long run.
