I have maintained a conceptual continuity in my academic and professional careers, an unswerving commitment to establishing, growing, or improving organizations. Reaching a point in my career where I feel I have exhausted every path of opportunity and challenge at my current academic level, turning to NC University’s School of Business is more than a logical choice for my life’s path; it is only natural and for a multitude of reasons.

Indeed, I am convinced through people I truly respect in the field and my own inquiries that only NC State Business’ breadth and autonomy of curriculum can provide me with the business world overview, but more specifically, the relevant contemporary in-depth knowledge of Finance and Accounting knowledge that I need to bring my research goals to fruition. With NC State’s expert faculty guiding me, I will be able to conduct relevant investigations into consumer behavior, the pursuit of consumer needs with the goal of discovering the best way to meet and exceed their unique needs.

Earning my Management Master will lay a solid foundation, a coalescing of my body of experience from which I can then move into higher levels of executive work. My first experience of starting a business was at the age of 30, it was a family business (Talida USA) in importing and exporting to the Middle East, after forming this great business. For me, it was about challenging myself to develop something new, strategies in distinct roles within the company: from product management, human resources management, marketing, and partnerships to coordination and operations.

I have an academic background in Corporate Finance. When we started Talida USA, I was tasked by the CEO to also lead and manage the planning departments. I had to learn and execute organization and transportation for my job, and it was great learning and delivery experience for me. As an Imports/Exports business, Talida USA has given me the opportunity to gain experience and execute various activities around operations and transportation. All that is needed is the right leadership. I have never wondered who would lead such work; I am that someone and I am not done yet.

In addition to my experiences in the field, I bring with me an established academic grasp of being successful in entrepreneurship, I will also need goals that are concrete and actionable, to guide me in getting my new business off the ground. I should also remember that while it is good to have long-term goals to grow my business in double digits YoY, I also need to set short-term goals relating to the formation of your business. All my short-term goals should be measurable and challenging to push me to raise the bar on my teams and business.

My competitive nature overflows into everything that I do, all that I am, earning and holding onto my leadership style as firsthand, direct, and leading by example. I enjoy taking the lead on projects and rolling up my sleeves. I am driven by impact business results that will delight our customers. I think my strengths as a leader are effective delegation and communication as well while staying close to the details. I delegate tasks to those who are best equipped to perform well in the task, and I try to communicate clearly about what needs to be done, and why. I explain the problem statement, business goals, and guide my team to execute to achieve results. This eliminates back-and-forth, mistakes, and the need to re-do tasks. And most importantly, it is important for us to scale our business. And as mentioned before, setting the company culture is the most important secret sauce so that we make sure that we hire the best people that will operate and execute on our vision as if it was their own vision and company.

In the most practical terms, I never learned time management skills from a book, instead, learning them through doing, and balancing an active career, martial arts, teaching, volunteerism, and entrepreneurship. While I anticipate a challenging academic program, I feel that I have exhibited my ability to excel in every venture I undertake. It is this passion for my life, my work, and lifelong education that I bring to NC State's master's in management program.
