In the beginning of the bible, the world was dark. Then God created light to make it brighter. However, when God isn't here to shield the light, Night overtook. it's a time of darkness. it's also a place where people cannot see and help one another. due to the religion in God, the darkness, hopelessness of Night, and also the period of Night, Elle Wiesel’s famous short novel is named “Night”, which is extremely significant for Elle Wiesel additionally because of the Jews during world war II. 

Firstly, many Jews were enthusiastic about religious book reading because they admired God. While they were within the concentration camp, Jews had encountered many horrifying things and they thought God wasn't there to guard them. one among the Jews said, “Where He is? this is where hanging here from this gallow” This quote uses the gallows as symbolism for Elie’s faith in God to point out that just as the noose was killing the young boy, it had been killing Elie’s faith likewise. This moment within the book is the turning point for Elie’s faith and is the point within which Elie almost completely loses his faith that God will save him and therefore the rest of the several Jews. After this happens within the book, Elie begins to possess some very inhumane thoughts. The Jews thought, how could God allow a boy with an angelic face to be hanged by the Nazis. due to this, people started asking where God was. Some even ceased to believe in God. 

In another section of the book, Elie tells of a person named Akiba Drummer who would walk around and mope to each prisoner that he couldn’t persist and that he no longer wanted to live. During the selection, Akiba volunteered himself to die. Elie then explains that if Akiba had not lost his faith, he would have survived the selection. “Poor Akiba Drummer, if he could have gone on believing in God, if he could have seen a symbol of God during this Calvary, he wouldn't have been taken by the selection. But as soon as he felt the first cracks forming in his faith, he had lost his reason for struggling and had begun to die”. This quote shows that Elie eventually acknowledges that without faith, you start to lose any reason to live. during this section of the book, Akiba Drummer stands as a reminder to Elie and also the other prisoners to not lose faith. Elie realizes that if he lost every trace of religion he had left, he would end up like Akiba.  

Night also signified the low point of the main character, Elle’s, faith in God. Elle once said, “My eyes have opened and I was alone, terribly alone in an exceeding world without God, without man, without love and mercy.” Jews madly believed in God, especially Elle. However, after lots of depressing things happening, Elle felt suspicious of the existence of God. He thought he should stop believing in God to make himself stronger. In Night, Wiesel uses Eliezer’s struggle to keep his faith to indicate that even the strongest believers could lose their faith in such adversity but that faith is additionally often necessary for survival. the first day Elie arrived at Auschwitz was also one of his most traumatic. during this section of the book, Elie arrives at his first concentration camp, Auschwitz. Upon his arrival, he's instantly greeted…

 To summarize everything, due to their faith in God, the darkness, or night, represented hopelessness.
