Throughout the gospel of Luke, we encountered teachings and lessons, rejoice, prayer, and so much more. Many years later, so many people continue to follow the things that were taught to society from the bible, specifically, the gospel of Luke. Jesus’ upside-down Kingdom mission continues to be fulfilled today by the parables given in the Gospel of Luke, the death and resurrection of Jesus in the Gospel of Luke, and miracles of Jesus written in the Gospel.

Jesus lives his mission to bring God’s Kingdom to earth through his preaching and teachings through the parables being presented in the Gospel of Luke. Just like in the parable of the lost sheep. “And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.” (Luke 15:5-7). I find that this parable is a great example and shows how through the preaching and teachings of Jesus, these parables bring his kingdom down to earth by giving a lesson through the lost sheep and sharing that when the lost sheep was found, all were to rejoice. In this parable, Jesus says “I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent” (Luke 15). According to New Creations, “One of the many reasons Jesus came to Earth was to teach us about the Kingdom of God. When he was first starting his ministry Jesus said this, “I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also because for this purpose I have been sent.” (Luke 4:43)” This helps Jesus’ upside-down kingdom mission to continuously be fulfilled by teaching us how to preach about God’s Kingdom and we learn throughout the Gospel of Luke that Luke shows how God acts in dramatic ways to fulfill His plan for the renewal of his people. “Jesus needed to explain to us how the Kingdom of God works because it is so radically different from how things work in our world in so many areas. There are a whole lot of ways we do things in our world that are completely upside down from how they work in the Kingdom of God.” Simple things like our daily routine and the way that we live our lives. The way that our society impacts our community has a very fine line of what the Kingdom of God has there ways.

The most important thing that I’ve learned since the beginning of the Gospel of Luke would be the death and resurrection of Jesus. “By his passion and death, Jesus showed us the depth of God’s love, which desires the salvation of all people. His sacrifice redeemed us, took away our sins, and restored us to communion with God… It is a gift from the father who handed his son over to the sinner to reconcile us with himself. “At the same time, it is the offering of the son of God made man, who in freedom and love offered His life to his father through the holy spirit in reparation for our disobedience” (ccc, 614). Throughout the Gospel of Luke, the death and resurrection of Jesus was something that spoke out to me. Luke’s interpretation of Jesus’ death and resurrection mainly focuses on the political and theological views of Jesus’s death so “Despite the sometimes-vivid portraits of crucifixion in novels and movies, our knowledge of this form of execution is limited.”

The story of Jesus’s death and resurrection in the Gospel of Luke is still used today since comparisons between different Gospels are constantly being brought up in our daily lives. “ When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted his hands and blessed them.”  While he was blessing them, He left them and was taken up into heaven. “Then they worshiped Him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy.” And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.” This story shares some of the most important aspects of the way that Jesus lived his life because of the way that Jesus was portrayed during this time in the gospel of Luke.

I am keeping the mission of Jesus alive as his disciple 2,000 years later through his miracles that were placed in the Gospel of Luke. In Luke chapter 8, the “Wind and Waves Obeyed Jesus” miracle was performed. And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm. But He said to them, “Where is your faith?” None of them trusted in Jesus enough to know that they would be okay. 2,000 years later, so many different things, scary things, happen and there would not be enough faith put into the lord for us to know we will be okay.

So many miracles in the Gospel of Luke were healings, which is why Jesus is portrayed as a healer. For example, when Jesus heals Peter’s mother-in-law of a fever, or when he heals a woman who had been crippled for 18 years. “And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.” Many people pray every day and every night if they are in need for the lord's healing. This is how I know that Jesus’ mission to fulfill the upside-down Kingdom and bring it to his people has been fulfilled.

The continued mission to fulfill Jesus’ upside-down Kingdom was expressed through the lessons and teachings of the parables and how they are still brought down to society today and continue to impact people. The death and resurrection of Jesus and miracles that were performed in the Gospel of Luke show us how all was to come. These events that happened through the Gospel brought Jesus’ upside-down Kingdom to earth and therefore, it was fulfilled.
