Did you know that in the Renaissance clothing was a key part of life? In the renaissance, clothing was a key part of life. Clothing was a way of living, and had many laws and rules tied into it. Fashion in the renaissance was very strict and had many laws for both men and women.

Women's clothing in the renaissance is a very complicated routine, because of the many rules and requirements. The article, “Renaissance Women Clothing” from victoria and albert museum states that during the time of the renaissance, women often wore long dresses with detachable sleeves, often adjusted for changes in weather. This helps with different seasons, so one or two dresses can be worn year round. The first thing to start off an outfit was the hat. Men often wore a flat cap made of wool. Next were shirts with a wide open neck. They also wore a clothing piece called a doublet, over the shirt. A doublet is similar to a vest, but with sleeves. This all sums up the laws and rules in the renaissance outfit.

Clearly, the renaissance outfit was very complicated and had many laws with it. Clearly, the layers and steps of an outfit in the renaissance are very different from our basic outfits we were today, but also the same. Clothing was a way of living, in the renaissance just like it is today for us. Yes, fashion in the renaissance was very strict for men and women and had many laws and requirements to go along with it.
