Importance of Machu Picchu Essay Example

What makes Machu Picchu so important? Machu Picchu is an amazing historical place that is believed to be the Inca empire before it was conquered by Francisco Pizarro. It is a suitable place to learn about how the Inca lived since people that live around Machu Picchu still live like how their Inca ancestors did.  

Machu Picchu "standing 2,430 m above sea level," (source 2 paragraph 10) is an important historical place that is believed to had been abandoned by the Inca after being conquered by Francisco Pizarro in the 1530's. "The approximately 200 structures making up this outstanding religious, ceremonial, astronomical, and agricultural centre are set on a steep ridge, criss crossed by stone terraces." (Source 2 paragraph 9) for its excellent structure many mysteries remain unsolved. 

Machu Picchu, being "a world-renowned archaeological site," is a particularly important cultural site for Latin America. The people that still live near Machu Picchu do live close to how their Inca ancestors did which can help with learning more historical things about Machu Picchu. "79 acres of mountain slopes, peaks, and valleys surrounding it." (Source 2 paragraph 9) Many things are there for research that we have not found. 

Bingham was an American explorer and "for long weeks he had scoured the sweltering jungles of eastern Peru for clues." (Source 1 paragraph 1) Unfortunately Bingham died uncertain of if Machu Picchu was or was not actually the "lost" Inca empire. Many people wanted to solve that mystery of if or if not, it was. We would be more certain if Machu Picchu were the only structure Bingham found but he also found a larger set of ruins around 60 miles away. 

Machu Picchu is important because of all the historical evidence it holds. Even after it was fled due to the Spanish conquistador it still has great learning possibilities. We will eventually find out if it was or was not the Inca capital empire. For now, we get to stay wondering.
