People might say what is addiction or is addiction genetic, people might also say is addiction always related to doing bad things. So what is addiction?

Addiction has come to refer to a wide and complex range of behaviors. In addition to substance addictions, such as alcohol dependence, drug dependence, and smoking addiction, addictive behavior has also been associated with food, exercise, work, and even relationships with others (codependency). Addictions symptoms has a wide variety from alcoholic to obesity, but The spectrum of behaviors designated as addictive may be described with five interrelated concepts: patterns, recurrent ways of approaching an event, person, or thing habits, routine behaviors that often occur without thinking

compulsions, which unlike patterns or habits, originate for the purpose of relieving anxiety impulse-control disorders, such as overeating, which constitute a specific type of compulsive behavior that provides short-term gratification but is harmful in the long run

physical addiction, which involves dependence on a habit-forming substance characterized by tolerance and well-defined physiological withdrawal symptoms.

Not all addictive behavior involves the use of drugs or alcohol. One such potentially life-threatening type of behavior is compulsive overeating associated with obesity. (Jacqueline L. Longe)

Some people might say smoking is not bad and other people will say smoking is bad, So what is smoking?

So Smoking is the inhalation of the smoke of burning tobacco encased in cigarette or cigar paper or pipes. Casual smoking is the act of smoking only occasionally, usually in a social situation or to relieve stress. A smoking habit is a physical addiction to tobacco products. Many health experts regard habitual smoking as a psychological addiction, too, and one with serious health consequences.

And what does the FDA say The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has asserted that cigarettes and smokeless tobacco should be considered nicotine delivery devices. Nicotine, the active ingredient in tobacco, is inhaled into the lungs, where most of it stays. The rest passes into the bloodstream, reaching the brain in about 10 seconds and dispersing throughout the body in about 20 seconds. 

No one starts smoking to become addicted to nicotine. The reasons why people start smoking are varied. Nearly 90% of smokers start before the age of 18, often as a result of advertising or peer pressure. Many older Americans began smoking as teenagers before the harmful effects of smoking were completely clear and at a time when smoking was even more evident in movies and popular culture.(Brigham Narins)

Most people who smoke don’t know about second hand smoking.

Second hand smoking is  Nonsmokers who are exposed to tobacco smoke also take in with the smoker tar, nicotine, and carbon monoxide, tobacco smoke contains 4,000 different chemicals. More than 200 of these chemicals are known be toxic.

Research on smoking shows that most smokers desire to quit. But smoking is so addictive that fewer than 20% of the people who try ever successfully kick the habit. Still, many people attempt to quit smoking repeatedly, despite the difficulties—the cravings and withdrawal symptoms, such as irritability and restlessness.( Jacqueline L. Longe)

But the good news is that there is treatment for quitting now.

Research shows that most smokers who want to quit benefit from the support of other people. It helps to quit with a friend or to join a group such as those organized by the American Cancer Society. These groups provide support and teach behavior modification methods that can help smokers quit. Physicians can often refer smokers to such groups. Every state in the U.S. maintains resources to help people who are ready to quit smoking, and these can be accessed by dialing a national hotline at 1–800–QUIT–NOW (1–800–784–8669). Other alternatives to help with the withdrawal symptoms of kicking the habit include nicotine replacement therapy in the form of gum, patches, nasal sprays, and oral inhalers.This helps wean the smokers from nicotine slowly, eventually beating their addiction to the drug. But there is one important caution: If the smoker lights up while taking a nicotine replacement, a nicotine overdose may cause serious health problems. 

But all that aside the good thing for addiction are getting addicted to helping people, Donating to the unfortunate, Etc.  I say addiction can be a superpower the particular reason is  it changes you be addicted to anything changes you. it changes your personality and changes how your act around people when you get addicted to a substance slowly you will realize what it is doing to your body and how it is affecting you. then you start to change and be aware. You change what  you consume and every bad habits you do. Then when you quit what your addicted to,  you start to realize what mistakes you have done. And you can inform other people what and how can it affect your body. You can help other people to quit and save them from damaging themselves even more and my definition of superheroes is helping people.
