The Cold war was a war between the United States, the Soviet Union, and their allies which lasted for nearly 45 years without any direct warfare. The Soviet Union is to blame for the Cold War because the Soviet Union was spreading communism in Europe. They sought to expand the Soviet Social system in Europe, but this threatened democracy. As a result, the tension between the two superpowers began to rise. Thus began the Cold War.
After WWII Soviet Russia was spreading communism in Europe. This is stated in the Sinews of Peace speech from Churchill, “Nobody knows what Soviet Russia and its Communist international organization intends to do in the immediate future, or what are the limits, if any, to their expansive and proselytizing tendencies.” In this piece of evidence, Churchill announced the beginning of the Cold War. which proves that Great Britain and the United States were provoked by Soviet Russia and the spread of communism. Stalin's response to what Churchill said about his proselytizing tendencies was this," And Mr. Churchill is not alone here. He has friends not only in England but also in the United States of America. In this respect, one is reminded remarkably of Hitler and his friends. The growth of the influence of communism cannot be considered accidental. It is a normal function." Stalin blames Churchill and the English-speaking countries for the Cold War, and he claims that nations convert to communism out of their own free will.

Some may argue that the U.S and Great Britain were to blame for the Cold War, and this is not true. In the Sinews of Peace speech, Churchill says,” I do not believe that Soviet Russia desires war. What they desire is the fruits of war and the indefinite expansion of their power and doctrines. But what we have to consider here today while time remains, is the permanent prevention of war and the establishment of conditions of freedom and democracy as rapidly as possible in all countries.” The Commonwealth wants peace, but the Soviet Union and its expansion cannot allow for that to be possible. Also, they seek freedom and democracy in Europe, which the Soviet Union was taking away. It was seen in the following countries: Poland, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, Hungary, and Romania. These countries were members of the Warsaw pact, but they were also taken over and put under Soviet control.
