The Green Revolution Essay Example

The green revolution was a result of hunger and starvation around the world from WWII. “For the underprivileged billions in the forgotten world, hunger has been a constant companion and starvation has all too often alerted the nearby shadows. To millions of those unfortunates, who have long lived in despair, the green revolution seems like a miracle that has generated new hope for the future (Document 4).” The green revolution was seen as a sense of hope for future generations after living in despair from the effects of war. “The green revolution has won a temporary success in men’s war against hunger and deprivation; it has given man breathing space. It fully implemented the revolution and can provide sufficient food for assistance during the next three decades (Document 4).” Temporary success was found in the green revolution and gave distance from hunger and starvation and could provide enough food for three decades. 

The green revolution's goal was to improve living conditions and fix inadequate food supply through technical means. “More than half the people of the world live in conditions approaching misery. Their food is inadequate. They are victims of disease (Document 3).” Before the green revolution most of the people had to experience inadequate food supply and poor living spaces. “ I believe that we should make available to peace-loving people the benefit of our store of technical knowledge in order to help them realize their aspirations for a better life. Our aim should be to help the free peoples of the world, through their own efforts, to produce more food. The old imperialism exploitation for foreign prophet has no place in our plans.” The green revolution was a way to use technology to create a way to help with living conditions and inadequate food supply. The old imperialism exploitation was not to be used in the green revolution

Although the green revolution had some benefits, the outcome over a period of time caused negative effects. “The green revolution has been a failure it has led to reduced genetic diversity, increase vulnerability to pest, soil erosion, water shortages, reduce soil fertility, micronutrient deficiencies, soil contamination, reduce availability of nutritious food crops for the local population, the displacement of vast numbers of small farmers from their land, rural impoverishment and increased tension and conflicts (Document 8).”  The green revolution caused even more problems especially with the environment than benefits. “ The beneficiaries have been the agrochemical industry, large petrochemical companies, manufacturers of agriculture machinery, dam builders and large landowners (Document 8).” The green revolution's benefits impacts were mostly for industries and not for the world around them.in fact the green revolution made things worse than what it was already from WWII.
