Persuasive Essay Example: Professional Athletes and Entertainers Should Have High Salaries

Do you believe professional athletes and entertainers should have high salaries? It’s a very big topic and it needs to be resolved in our society. Many people think they should make high salaries and others do not. I think that they should make as much money as they do because they have to put hard work and dedication into earning how much they make, they constantly risk injury, and they are the best at what they do. 

Everyone has put hard work and dedication into their job but professional athletes and entertainers have put in the most. They had to earn their way up into fame and they deserve it. It is extremely hard to become a professional athlete. Only one percent of the top one percent of people who are athletes become a professional. It is very difficult to achieve becoming one of the top one percent of people, let alone becoming one of the one percent of the top one percent of athletes. It is almost impossible to do it. It isn’t as hard to become an entertainer but you still have to take a lot of classes to help you succeed at being one. There is a lot of work put in to become a professional athlete or an entertainer.

The next reason isn’t really for the entertainers but more for the professional athletes. Professional athletes constantly risk getting themselves injured. Whether it is getting hit in the face by a ninety-five miles an hour fastball in baseball, getting knocked out on the football field, or fracturing your ankle in basketball, they are all risking themselves. The amount of time that it takes to recover from the injury usually takes a long time too. There have even been fatalities in sports. Athletes are constantly risking their lives just for our entertainment. They deserve to be paid as much as they are if they’re constantly going to risk themselves. 

The last reason is that professional athletes and entertainers are the best at what they do. Like I stated earlier, only one percent of the top one percent of athletes become professional athletes. Only the best of the best are going to achieve their goal of becoming professional athletes. It’s not going to be some mediocre person playing a sport for fun, it’s going to be the person who has dedicated themselves to the sport and sticks out in a crowd of great athletes who is going to become a professional. It may be easier to become an entertainer but only the best are going to succeed at being one. You have to be liked by everyone you are working with and your audience has to like you too. It’s not easy to get people to like you. It takes time for that to happen which is why only the best entertainers succeed. They are patient, dedicated to their work, and overall, they entertain people.

The sore topic about whether professional athletes and entertainers should get the salary they get is very controversial and many people have different opinions on it. I think that they do deserve what they are making. They are industrious, they risk getting injured for our entertainment all the time, and they are the best at what they do. Though some people believe they don’t deserve what they make, I think that they should make as much money as they do because they have to put hard work and dedication into earning how much they make, they constantly risk injury, and they are the best at what they do.
