There have been four presidents whose terms have ran all through the 21st century. One of these presidents is Barack Obama. He served from 2008 to 2016 and was the 44th president of the United States. Obama is the most prolific president of the 21st century because of his communication with foreign nations how he affected the economy, and the bills he signed.

First of all, his foreign relations. Overall, he was a decently liked president around the world. He had many agreements, alliances and trades with other countries. He made an agreement with five other leaders and Iran to stop them from making nuclear weapons for at least ten years. He also negotiated and brought in the Trans-Pacific Partnership with twelve trade partners, tying pacific nations closer in to the United States. Even in climate he was able o reach a bilateral agreement with China agreeing that they both would reduce carbon emission. This led to the UN climate change conference in 2015.

There were also many things he did to help out nations. He for one restored diplomatic relations with Cuba or the first time in more than half a century. (Nelson, Foreign Affairs, 4) He also extended the African growth and opportunity act. This was able to provide tangible benefits to Sub-Saharan Africa by helping their competitiveness and investing. Lastly, he introduced HOPE for Haiti, which supported their textile and garment industry, which accounts for 91 percent of Haiti’s export earnings. (The White House, 2)

He even had numerous relations involving wars. Going into office, he inherited two of them, one was in Iraq and one was in Afghanistan. He was, over time, able to lower the number of troops in these areas from around 97 thousand down to 15 thousand. When ISIS first started emerging, he also used a new method with things like drones to limit the United States’ troops on foreign soil. (Nelson, 4)

Obama was able to create a better economy as well. Upon entering office, the economy and stock market crashed. He was able to turn it around in less than a year. From this point on, the economy did not stop growing during his time. The financial stability also was able to return under him, with bank losses decreasing. These losses included things like debts, loans among other payments. Bank lending dropped 22.6 percent from 2008 to 2010, in other words about 350 billion dollars. By early 2014, lending was able to recover all of these losses and then continue to grow up to 66.3 percent by the end of 2016.

He was able to do things for the governments economy too. Government finances were in much better shape under him. This was able to create investing room. Debt saw the lowest decline since the 1950’s. This allowed the government to step in to fill the void left by private businesses that had to cut back on spending and hiring.

There were even many benefits for the countries people. Job growth logged its largest expansion since 1939. The wages and income also increased and got to a record high in 2016. The affordable care act he brought in was also able to greatly expand health care coverage. All of these things he was able to do with major problems like slow growth overseas, different economy problems in foreign areas, and foreign conflicts, among others. Obama also had a big effect on the stock market. Over his term he had a 12.10 percent growth from Dow Jones Market Data. He also grew 13.84 percent according the the S&P 500. This is the second biggest growth ever recorded under a president. First place is Bill Clinton with 15.18 percent S&P 500 increase. (Cusick, Legacy on Economy, 3)

Obama had multiple bills as well that helped out the United States and other areas even. He introduced the Level the Playing Field Act. This helped close loopholes and strengthen our many factories against foreign companies trying to undercut our production, He also introduced Trade Adjustment Assistance. This helped over 22 million workers and 23 thousand veterans with things like training, support, etc.

He also had many bills helping the trade system. He helped pass two bills rewriting trade policy rules. These were the Trade Promotion Authority Act and the Trade Preferences Extension Act. Obama also extended the generalized system of preferences. This is the biggest and oldest trade program in United States history. (White House, 2)

Obama, before becoming a president was also a senator for Illinois from 2005 to 2008. While a senator he helped introduce 826 bills. (Library of Congress, 1) An extra fact is that he also became the fourth president to win the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009. The other ones were Theodore Roosevelt in 1906, Woodrow Wilson in 1920, and Jimmy Carter in 2002.  Vice President Al Gore also won in 2007.

In conclusion, Obama did many things during his eight year presidency. The country changed a lot around him. He did numerous things regarding foreign countries. He also by polls was the most supported and liked president of the century. For these reasons, he is the most prolific president of the 21st century.
