The Importance of Love in Romeo and Juliet Essay Example

Love smashes boundaries to conquer hate. Yet some choose to live their life in hate which leads to utter destruction. Were we not put on this world to change it with love? If we look at the world through the lens of love then it helps us to destroy hate. Which is the idea that William Shakespeare introduces in the exquisite Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet realize that love is greater than their family’s rivalry, which later results in their family’s friendship. This explains how Shakespeare thought one person can make an impact through love. Love is in Shakspeare’s writings above all hate. Romeo and Juliet shows the emotions of the characters through love, it shows love can fix hate, and love goes beyond death. 

Shakespeare creates romantic scenes to demonstrate the emotions of the characters. The main romantic relationship is that of Romeo and Juliet. The love between Romeo and Juliet helps us relate more to Romeo and Juliet. Romeo meets Juliet at a Capulet party which he shouldn’t even be at since he is a Montague. At the party, Romeo intends to find Rosaline who he thinks he loves. When he sees the beautiful Juliet and falls for her. Romeo and Juliet kiss at the party. Juliet asks the Nurse who Romeo truly is, she finds out that he is a Montague. The Montagues are her house rivalry. She explains in one of the most important quotes, contributing to romance and rivalry “My only love, sprung from my only hate!” (1.5.139). Juliet says this because the one person she is to hate she instead loves. This quote builds the story and shows to not have enemies instead have love. The quote also shows who Juilet truly is, and how she is in conflict with herself with love for someone she should hate. We find the importance in this scene because it shows romantic love for Romeo even through the hardship of their rivalry. This emphasizes their emotions for each other and helps the audience relate to the story through love and hate.

Shakespeare communicates that rivals can be forgiven and bond in love. The enemies in Romeo and Juliet are the Montagues and Capulets. At the end of Romeo and Juliet, the Montagues and Capulets transform from rivals to allies. Sadly it took their children’s deaths for them to see that love conquers hate. Romeo wants to marry the love of his life Juilet, so he goes to the Friar to ask if he will wed Juliet to him. The Friar agrees and says “For this alliance may so happy prove / To turn your households’ rancor to pure love” (2.3.91-92). The reason the Friar agrees to marry the two love birds is that the marriage could end the feud between the two opposite households. Although it shows that opposites attract. Romeo is truly in love with Juliet, and he is willing to go against all the hate with love. Their love eventually brings peace. Which shows love solves problems. 

Shakespeare believes that love goes even beyond death. This helps soften the blow of the ending because it allows the audience to hope for Romeo and Juliet’s love to go one beyond death forever. The Prince throughout the story just wants peace between the families. At the end of the book, the Prince says “See what a scourge is laid upon your hate, / That heaven finds the means to kill your joys with love” (5.3.292-293). This quote is extremely powerful because it makes the families realize what their hate has done. The quote shows us the love of Romeo and Juliet still lasts even after their deaths because their devotion to each other helps end the loathing families. The families see that hate is the true enemy and not each other. This helps bring an end to the story and shows the strength behind love. It shows that affection conquers all hate. Death is truly no match between love which Shakesphere emphasizes in Romeo and Juliet. 

Romeo and Juliet captures love above hate by helping the audience relate to Romeo and Juliet, showing love can fix hate, and love goes beyond death. Romeo and Juliet’s love story captures the hearts of many. Shakespeare brings the characters to life through devotion, passion, and friendship. Even though the challenges of life, love always conquers hate. When we put love first we find ourselves lighting the world with exultation. Romeo and Juliet teach us morals that help us learn from mistakes. The most important moral is love conquers hate.
