Essay Sample about Martin Luther King Jr., The Most Influential Person

What comes to my mind when I think of the word influential? Well a better question is what do you think of from the word influential? I cannot answer that for you but I can answer the first question, and this is what I shall talk about during this speech. So just listen to this and if you haven't already figured out what comes to your mind from the word influential, maybe this speech will give you a little bit of inspiration.

When I think of the word influential, I think of one person in particular. This person's name is Martin Luther King Jr. He was an amazing person from the 1900’s trying to overcome injustice, and I bet that many of you have heard this name before and remember and see him the way that I do. Martin Luther King Jr. was an influential figure because of his contributions to the Civil Rights Movement despite the challenges he faced such as constantly being arrested and his house being bombed. He was a national figure, and a brilliant orator who knew just what to say to make any person understand his heart.

Martin Luther King is well known for his leadership and participation in fighting for black people's rights. He once made a statement about how sometimes people must make decisions because it is right regardless of whether it is safe. This is a testament to and the legacy he left behind. He stood up for what he believed in and would not stop until he got what he wanted. One example for that statement is the Montgomery Bus Boycott. This is when a woman named Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat to a white person and got punished and kicked out. Martin Luther soon heard about this and formed a group to boycott that exact bus station, it took more than 1 whole year until that bus station gave up but they did it! 

I also want to talk about one more term from this topic, Freedom Riders. Freedom riders were people who would go to New Orleans and protest for the bus boycott. Normally people were not very welcoming to Freedom Riders and they would get treated, pretty violently i would say. Although that happened, no matter how much Freedom Riders would complain, Martin Luther King gave them one rule… NO VIOLENCE. He had followed that use from Mahatma Gandhi.  In my opinion I think that it is a pretty good saying to follow. You can trust this method because MLK has used it and he has been successful in everything. All violence ever does for you is either get you into trouble or make you feel very guilty, so stick to being non-violent.

Another way that Martin Luther King used to end segregation laws was by making many speeches and protests. For instance- these are the most popular ones: He has led a protest named the March On Washington and made the life changing speech called I Have A Dream. In this speech one of the sentences were - I have a dream that one day every valley shall be engulfed, every hill shall be exalted and every mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plains and the crooked places will be made straight and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together. This is our hope. This to me is the most inspiring sentence, many of you will have a sentence that stands out to you the most and for me this is the one. He made many more speeches and protests too, not just this one. This just shows how much effort he put in trying to end segregation laws.

When you really think about it, in a recapitulated kind of way, all Martin Luther King wanted was peace in life. So if you haven't already got the message from this speech, here it is- The reason I think that he is the most influential person is because although there were many times where he could have gotten easily frustrated he never gave up. He stood up for what he believed in no matter what others said and that is what makes him a good person.Martin Luther King, Jr. accomplished many great things during his life. He has impacted mine and many other peoples' lives deeply. If it were not for him, there would be lots of racism in life.
