Did you know, Sandra Cisneros (author of “Eleven”) claims that she first began writing because she had a very different story to tell from those around her, particularly her classmates. Look closely into both of the story’s “Eleven” by Sandra Cisneros and Mr.Peabody’s apples by Madonna, they both have some similarities and differences. For example a similarity of both of them are, they both had some sort of misunderstanding. In Mr.Peadbody’s apples, Tommy catches his teacher, Mr.Peabody which is a social studies teacher and baseball coach “steal” from Mr.Funkadeli’s Market. He watched him take an apple without paying. Later on he runs to tell his friends and then rumors spread. With Eleven, Mrs.Price is Rachel’s teacher she goes around the classroom asking every student if a red sweater was theirs. It was left in the back of the class and sat there for days. Sylvia Saldivar immediately blames Rachel.

Although it may seem like both story’s don’t have much in common, they have a whole different plot, both stories have a few similarities. To demonstrate, in Mr.Peabody’s apples the teacher reacted in some sort of way after the rumors started spreading. After Tommy tittlebottom told his friends, everyone didn’t show up to the baseball game except billy. Billy explained what was happening. Mr.Peabody was calm and found a solution, there was damage dealt but he handled it in a calming way. On the other hand the story Eleven, Rachel also had to handle her situation. She reacted in a way that is a little bit childish. Rachel crumbled the red sweater and threw on the corner of her desk, trying not to see it. Even though Rachel left it on the corner of her desk, Mrs.Price made Rachel wear the red ugly sweater. Another reason how both stories are similar is, they both had a lesson. In Mr.Peabody’s apples the lesson was be careful of what you say. And Eleven the theme was life is unfair. Something that drew my attention was that both stories had the main character accused.

Some unlike things in both stories are, firstly in Mr.Peabody’s apples, The main character is a baseball coach. Mr.Peabody is also a social studies teacher that is great with kids. Every student liked him until the incident. For example the text says “Waving hello to everyone he knew, and everyone would wave hello back.” This demonstrates that he was good with people. When the teacher told Tommy Tittlebottom to bring a pillow case with feathers in it, when they met up drew my attention. A little later, Mr.Peabody told Tommy to let the feathers get out of the pillow case, which was very strange. The text wrote “cut the pillow in half and shake the feathers out.” And soon after that the text says “There is one more thing. Said Mr.Peabody now you must go and pick up the feathers.” Tommy replied with “I don’t think it’s possible to pick up all those feathers.” Tommy learns that what he has done did a great impact to his coach. In spite of that fact that their problems were both different the story has many similarities.

Some main things in Eleven that are similar to Mr.Peabody’s apples are that, Rachel is a student and not a teacher. The main plot was about a sweater because Rachel had trouble convincing Mrs.Price the red sweater was not hers. The particular reason for this circumstance was happing because Sylvia Saldivar she told Mrs. Price “I think it belongs to Rachel.” After that, Rachel was shocked and she finds it hard to say the sweater isn’t hers. What comes out of her mouth was “that’s not, I don’t, your not… not mine.” With Mrs.Price telling her it’s hers Rachel can’t defend herself because Mrs.Price is the teacher and she is correct. The main character struggles along the way with the red sweater. My thoughts on this matter are Rachel handled the situation terribly compared to Mr.Peabody’s apples. Mr.Peabody was able to find a way to help his student out, with Rachel in the other hand didn’t do anything. She waited until another student claimed that the sweater was theirs. With her attitude, her teacher got mad she says “you put that sweater on right now and no more nonsense.”

To sum up everything that has been stated so far, there are many similarities and differences in Eleven By Sandra Cisneros and Mr.Peabody’s apples by Madonna. The overall plot is different but the theme is something you can learn from both stories. An example is Be careful of what you say in Mr.Peabody’s apples. The similarities were about misunderstanding how they have a lesson in it and etc. With eleven and Mr.Peabody’s apples some differences were about the plot and how they handled their situation. In the end Tommy in Mr.Peabody’s apples learns that his teacher didn’t steal because he already paid for it every Saturday morning. And with the other story Eleven, a student remembers that the sweater was theirs.
